CoasunSA is nutritionally superior, highly functional all purpose shortening alternative that has been proven in a wide range of industrial scale bakery applications.
Ordinary shortening products obtain their functional properties from their high content of solid fat in the form of saturated fats primarily from palm fat, or trans fats.
Highly saturated palm fat contains a high level of palmitic fatty acids. Although some saturated fatty acids are proven to be neutral or beneficial to cardiovascular health, palmitic acid is associated elevating low density lipoproteins (LDLs), and lowering high density lipoproteins (HDLs). Saturated palmitic fat in the diet should be minimized.
Likewise trans fatty acids produced by partial hydrogenation of edible fats and oils should be eliminated from the human diet as recommended health authorities around the world.
Coasun’s shortening alternative relies on a unique process to structure liquid vegetable oil without chemically changing the oil. This results in a highly functional a shortening that contains healthy liquid vegetable oil having the same fatty acid composition as the oil used to make the shortening.
Any source of vegetable oil or blend of oils can be used. If you are close to a source of soybean, sunflower, or canola oil for example these oils they may be used. Additional hard fats such as palm fat are not necessary.
You can source your commodity oils locally, eliminate your concern about supply, feel good about supporting your local farmers and agri-food industry, and know that you have chosen the best option for environmental sustainability.
